Scented Soy Candles Are Great For Your Home
If you love scented candles, you might be surprised to know that there's a better choice than the traditional candles you've been using. Scented soy candles might be the way to go when it comes to buying your next set of scented candles. Soy candles are actually easier to scent than just about any type of candle. That makes them better for aromatherapy, and it means that you'll get a lot more scent for your money than with any other type of scented candle.
Soy candles are made from soybeans. Once the beans have been pressed for oil, the oil can be treated, creating soy wax. This wax is softer and melts at a lower temperature than conventional paraffin wax, but it's also environmentally friendly and puts off no soot. This wax can then be scented with essential oils, perfumes, or other fragrances. Since soy wax is so receptive to scents, it's ideal for use in scented soy candles. Many manufacturers are adding a very concentrated dose of scent to their soy candles, allowing them to perfume your whole house. Soy wax allows for a higher concentration of the scented oils used in candles, while paraffin doesn't retain this oil as well.
That's not the only reason that scented soy candles are better than conventional ones, however. They also burn at a lower temperature, and more quickly. That means that a soy candle won't last as long, but it will scent your home more effectively. Instead of producing a small pool of oil around a fast burning flame, a larger pool is created around a soy candle's wick. This melted wax is responsible for releasing the scent. Because a larger wax pool is created, more odor can be released into the room. To get the best out of your scented soy candles, there are a few things you can do.
The first time you light a given soy candle, be willing to let it burn for a little while. One rule is to permit your candle to burn for an hour per inch in diameter. That means that a three to four inch scented soy candle should initially burn for three to four hours. This allows an ideally sized pool of wax to be created. As the candle burns, the melted wax will spread from the center of the candle towards the edge of the jar. Don't let your candle go out until that pool has reached the jar's edge. That's because the wax will spread to this point in the future, no matter how long you burn the candle. If you only burn your candle for a short while in the beginning, the burn pool will remain small, burning your candle down through the center. This means that the wax around the edges will go unused, and your scented candle won't work the way you want it to.
When putting scented soy candles out, don't blow them out or snuff them. Instead, dip the wick down into the wax, coating them in it. This will prepare the wick for the next burn, without creating a residue of soot. That way, you'll get a more pleasant, more efficiently burning candle. If you love to use scented candles in your home, think about switching to soy.
